Full Name: Adam Michael Lowe

DOB: 17th February 1989

Born: Leicester

Adam is 18 years old and lives in Groby, Leicestershire with his family – mum, dad, brother and sister - who all support him in his speedway career.
He started riding speedway at the end of the 2002 season when he got his first speedway bike – a Honda 125cc. Adam attended training sessions at Sheffield where he learnt to ride his first motorbike at the age of 13. Until this time he had never been on a motorbike before let alone controlled one! He enjoyed it a lot and got a little better (and braver) and progressed to a 1987 GM 500cc upright bike in February / March 2003. Adam rides whenever he can and grasps each opportunity that comes along. He attends as many practice and training days as he can and try to get as many second half rides as possible in order to progress at the sport.
In 2004 Adam joined an amateur speedway club called the Southern Track Riders where he was the youngest rider to ride for them - until this season the lower age limit was 16 (he was only 15 at the time). He went on to win the Novice Championship that first year – youngest ever!
The next year (2005) Adam attended a ‘press and practice day’ at King’s Lynn track for Boston (in the conference league) and was offered a number 8 spot. He was lucky enough to have ridden in almost all of their matches that season. This was his first season of many he hopes.
Last season (2006) Adam was not lucky enough to get a team place initially but kept going to practice days and training days and second half rides and eventually got a reserve spot at Stoke riding for the SAS Spitfires, again in the conference league. Again he rode in many matches for them and although he may not be the best rider in the team he felt he always gave 100% and was willing to help others at the track when needed.
Adam wanted to train as much as he could over the closed season but sadly had no engines but that has all changed now, and since the return of his engines, Adam rode as much as he could for the rest of the closed season hopefully he will get a place again with a team this season. He now currently has 2 GM engines one of which he bought from Mikael Max last season.
Like many sports, speedway can be expensive. Adam is therefore currently looking for sponsorship in order for him to fulfill both his dream and his full potential. Adam feels that he could, with the right equipment and support, be good enough to go far in the sport. At present he is just starting out in the lower conference league but hopes to progress into the premier and then the elite league and would love to represent his country in the world cup and grand prix eventually – although he can appreciate that this may be a long way in the future.
Adam is now working for Graham Jones where he helps him to strip, clean and rebuild speedway engines and will hopefully be spending more time working on the bikes in his workshop now the new season has opened. Until this time he is sadly unable to offer him full time employment so he has also recently gained his NPLQ and works as a lifeguard on a casual basis for the local city council. The position of lifeguard also gives him access to a gym where he can go to train to help maintain fitness which will also help him in his racing. At weekends he works a couple of hours in the mornings for a local golf club.
Adam's dad gets as much on call as he can and his mum works overtime when it is available but still manage to find time go come along and support him. His brother and dad are his chief mechanics and are always at trackside to help Adam (and other riders), whether it is a match, a practice session or second half ride. His mum and girlfriend, Steph also attend as many meetings as they can.
Adam says "Without the support of my family I would not be able to ride speedway at any level".
When Adam was 15, he applied to go into the Speedway Academy to improve his ability and knowledge of the sport but sadly was unsuccessful in his application.
Sadly, Leicester no longer has a speedway track (there used to be one over 20 years ago) so he has to travel for at least 2 hours until he gets to the nearest track. You can keep track of his progress here which will be regularly updated throughout the season.
Adam has also appeared on TV twice – once in 2005 and then again last year. The first time was for a programme called ‘Bikes Aloud’ which was broadcast on Men and Motors and was basically an introduction to the sport of speedway recorded at King’s Lynn. Last year he appeared in a programme broadcast on BBC1 called ‘Living in the Sun’ where he rode on a Spanish track which was being set up by friend and ex-mentor Russell Paine (only ex due to leaving the country!).
